One motorbike track through the savanna, ten years ago. Here's how it turned into a proper trail system.
Uluwatu Activity didn't start as a business. It started as three friends riding a motorbike track through the dry savanna behind Suluban because it was the fastest way to reach the surf break before sunrise. Visitors started asking to come along. Eventually, one motorbike became a fleet of ATVs, and a shortcut became a mapped trail system with four proper routes.
Three local riders cut an informal path through the savanna behind Suluban, just a shortcut to the surf, not yet a business.
Word spread among visiting surfers. The first two ATVs were bought secondhand, and the "track" got its first real safety briefing routine.
What used to be one loose track became four distinct routes (savanna, cliffside, village, and ravine), each mapped, timed, and rated for difficulty.
Six local guides, four packages, and the same stretch of Uluwatu savanna we started on, just a lot more organized than it used to be.
